A-level French and a brief stint in Paris do not a native speaker make.
Of the languages I know, French is definitely the most musical. Japanese is percussive (always reminds me of Spanish, which I haven't studied) and Cantonese is fractious. Mandarin can sound quite nice when it isn't shouted across three streets. And English... just my bread-and-butter-cum-melting pot where I can shelter from language fatigue (encouragement here, suggestions here).
To return to French for the moment, I've invested all of 30 yuan to buy a copy of this: Nouvelles Choisies de Maupassant. Ask me about it in a few months...
