More encouraging comments from my writers' group:

it may have been because I was hosting the writing group tonight. Still, a helpful push in the right direction.

Also, I caved and got this...

Heavier, larger and pricier than what I wanted, but it's really useful and lets me type naturally on the go.  no excuse but to write now!!
